Vauxhall
1958 Vauxhall - Black and white 7 1/4" x 11" ad for the 1958 Vauxhall. This ad begins with the words "British craftmanship...and distinction" next to a drawing of one of these cars. Below this it has a photo of one parked at a stable where the lady is leaning against the car while there is a man on a horse and another woman petting him. The ad headline says this car is "for Americans on the GO!". It then says that "This handsome import has everything - there's 4-door convenience...5-passenger roominess...trunk space galore - yet it's compact enough to park in space others pass by. Vauxhall's rugged beautifully crafted power plant lets you cruise all day at turnpike speeds and its standard American gear shift means there's nothing new to learn...yet its fuel economy is remarkable by even austere British standards. Why not arrange an introduction today". At the bottom of the ad there is a statement that says that "Vauxhall is sold and serviced by Pontiac Dealers coast to coast". July 1958

Vauxhall
1959 Vauxhall - Black and white 7 1/2" x 11" ad for a 1959 Vauxhall. The ad has a photo of a man standing in a room with a table, many sets of shoes and a Light-Colored Vauxhall and, as he is looking at a pair of boots, he says "We British simply insist on quality". The ad text says that "You'll love the Vauxhall for the same reason the British do!". It then says that "Throughout the world the label "Made in England" stands for precise craftsmanship. In the Vauxhall it stands for even more because it reflects the British flair for practicality. Despite the Vauxhall's trim and compact design, there's simple room for five and all their luggage - plus 4-door convenience. You'll like, too, the Vauxhall's wrap-around windshield and rear window...its standard American gearshift...its extreme manoeuvrability in traffic and parking. And you'll be surprised that so nimble and powerful a car is so frugal in its gasoline requirements. Plan soon to see and drive the British-crafted Vauxhall".

Volvo
1963 Volvos - Black and white 9 3/4" x 13" ad has photos of five different models with their prices, all less than $4,000. The headline states that "If you want economy you've got to pay for it" and the text discusses how untrue this fact really is. It starts by saying that "There's only one way to build an economical automobile. You build it by putting things into it - not by leaving things out of it. You don't strip the engine of power and strength and stamina. You don't make the car so small the family has to draw straws for a seat. And you don't skip on those finishing touches that make an automobile a pleasure to own and drive (that's austerity, not economy)". It then goes into what needs to be done when you build a car such as this. You would put dual carburetors on the engine, machine finish the combustion chambers to give them a mirror finish, you would put five main bearings in the engine instead of the normal three, cast the engine block from charcoal iron, stamp the body panels - sides, top and bottom - from heavy-gauge Swedish steel, rust-proof the entire body, install 15-inch wheels before making the smaller changes that need to be done. That's what is done to all of the 1963 Volvos.

Volvo
1973 Volvos - Full color 8" x 11" ad that is for the variety of 1973 Volvos that were available. The ad headline says "Volvo: Ideally Sutuated Between The Absurb And The Ridiculous" and it is placed over a picture of three different cars that were available. The text then says that "By not going to extremes, Volvo accomplishes more that cars that do. Up front, a Volvo has as much legroom as a Cadillac DeVille. In back, as much as a Buick Electra. Which gives Volvo the space and comfort of big cars like the one on the right. Instead of squeezing you into the ridiculously small space of little cars lilke the one on the left. Yet a Volvo's turning radius is actually smaller than a VW Beetle. Which means Volvo can maneuver in and out of parking spaces and traffic like little cars. To call maneuverability a big-car speciality would be absurd. And while a Volvo may not leave big cars behind in the dust, it's fuel-injected 2 liter engine lets you move right out in the fast lane. Something that can't be said as quickly about little cars. So instead of compromising by going to extremes, go halfway and get everything. Get a Volvo. To get anything else would be either absurd or riduculous".
